So why is it that the republican party, the tea party, and conservatives in general can get away, unchallenged, with the claim that a majority of Americans are and have been opposed to the Health Care Reform legislation proposed by President Obama? Why hasn't the media, that great bastion of liberalism, (not including Fox) brought it to the attention of the american populace that this claim is misleading at its best and most likely is an intentional perpetration of fraud brought on for the purpose of fomenting a violent anti-Obama sentiment amongst the masses.
If for instance the figure as claimed happens to be 55% of Americans are opposed to the Health Care Reform Bill, just what does that mean? Does it mean, as is suggested, that this majority of American citizens are united? That they would fight for the right to have their and their compatriots wishes carried out? That they would stand shoulder to shoulder to defend their rights as a majority?
Hell no it doesn't mean that. Truth be told, a rarity in today's world, it is a well know fact that nearly as many citizens opposed the Health Care Reform Bill because it DIDN'T PROVIDE FOR A PUBLIC OPTION/SINGLE PAYER PLAN as there were citizens claiming it was a socialist plot to bring our government to its knees. In other words, that 55% of Americans opposed to the plan were so divided among themselves that they wouldn't piss on one another if they had all caught on fire! So, isn't it a brazen fraud to suggest that the Health Reform Act is somehow opposed in unity by a majority of the citizens?
Address that Rush, or Hannity or Glen. Explain that to the American public.
Lenny
It is hard for me to not get very cynical about the American People in this discussion. But I would not be so bold as to claim to fully understand "the people". I also would not be so arrogant as to claim to be holier than thou. However, a few observations come to mind. We seem to need regular hourly / daily stimulation with no real social grounding. (insecure) Our concept of civic duty is weekly spending at the local mall or bumper stickers, ribbons and flags. We feed our minds with American Idol and Survivor and tolerate fau news from just about all american TV channels. Still a bit of information available on BBC and PBS. We are somewhere between scared and spoiled and don't show any public character until major disasters, wars, etc. We live in a self imposed bubble at the center of the universe and are easily rallied around protecting it. We like easy targets and instant pudding. We like to defend the Consititution but really don't want to read it. We prefer to follow dogma of our leaders. Politics has turned into strickly theater and "50%" means absolutly nothing, indeed data and facts mean nothing. Truth, forget about it.
ReplyDeleteAlice in Woderland seems more real. Look at Bill Mc Cullam and my "great state on florida". No one questions that it is his "old" legal firm leading the charge to declare to Health Care Bill unconstitutional. The fomula seems all too simple. Whip up some emotions, again fear is great for doing this, then lead the blind. Politics has become sick in this country.
Glen, Hannity , et al are great at theater and even worst are so delusional that they believe what they are saying. Worse, 50% of "us" do.
Why don't the tea baggers and assorted republican scum come out and scream it(in the words of B. Dylan)the idea of a black man giving orders is world destroying to them who is dull enough to say it isn't about race. but let's focus on the positive my hero Lenny. In the world of the courts which operates like the Weimar republic with the brown shirts trying to take control the bearded one is light unto us toilers in the fields. seeing Lenny in court reminds me of an old Gerald Green book "the last angry man" where someone tries to do something useful in a world of slugs. Anyway so much for Zen stay angry
